Foxconn’s 1 billion yuan new energy vehicle R&D center goes into operation in Zhengzhou

On February 4, Foxconn officially launched its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Research and Development Center in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone, Henan Province, with a total investment of 1 billion RMB.

The center is built and funded by Foxconn New Energy Vehicle Industry Development (Henan) Co., Ltd. Construction began in July 2024, and it is located within the Zhengzhou Airport Area Auto City. The facility is positioned as a global intelligent benchmark factory and industry innovation engine, focusing on core R&D tasks including product planning, platform development, and complete vehicle manufacturing for new energy vehicles.

At the opening ceremony, Li Guangyao, General Manager of Foxconn New Energy Vehicle, stated that the center uses a contract design and manufacturing service model. By leveraging digitalized R&D, intelligent factory operations, and efficient supply chain collaboration, the development cycle for new models has been successfully reduced to 24 months.

Li also emphasized that the center will collaborate with partners in key technologies such as next-generation electronic and electrical architectures and intelligent driving, building an open and collaborative industry ecosystem. This R&D center represents a strategic step in Foxconn’s Henan expansion plan.

Since entering Henan in 2010, Foxconn has contributed significantly to local employment. In recent years, it has expanded investments in the province, establishing joint ventures for high-end electronics manufacturing, constructing a new business headquarters, expanding smartphone production lines, and developing modern employee communities.

According to officials from the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone, the establishment of the 2024 NEV pilot production center and now this R&D center marks the acceleration of Foxconn’s full industrial chain layout, from R&D and pilot production to mass production.

The launch of the center is expected to strengthen Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone’s capabilities in NEV research and manufacturing, injecting new innovation momentum into the regional new energy vehicle industry.
