India Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is the central government authority of the Republic of India responsible for shaping and implementing national policy on electronics, information technology, and digital governance. It was established on 5 July 2016, evolving from earlier departments focused on information and electronics technology. MeitY leads the formulation of IT strategy, promotes e-governance initiatives, cybersecurity, digital transactions, and the development of the electronics and IT sectors. It also supports innovation, research and development, and inclusive digital services across the country. Headquartered in New Delhi, the ministry works with various subordinate agencies and schemes—such as Digital India and Technology Incubation programs to extend digital connectivity, empower citizens, and build India’s role in global IT governance.
