Digital India
Digital India is a flagship digital transformation programme launched by the Government of India on 1 July 2015 with the vision to create a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It is managed through the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and implemented via agencies like the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). The initiative focuses on expanding digital infrastructure (such as broadband connectivity and government cloud), delivering governance and public services on demand electronically, and empowering citizens through digital literacy, inclusion, and online services such as DigiLocker, Aadhaar-linked services, and mobile access to government services. Digital India works across sectors to improve access to e-services, enhance digital skills, and support innovation, helping bridge the urban-rural digital divide and deepen internet penetration across India.
