BYD Company Limited is a Chinese multinational publicly listed manufacturing and technology conglomerate headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It was founded in 1995 by Wang Chuanfu originally as a battery manufacturer and has since grown into a major global company focused on electric vehicles (EVs), rechargeable batteries, electronics, renewable energy, and urban rail transit systems.

The company operates through several key subsidiaries, including BYD Auto (its automotive arm producing battery electric vehicles, plug‑in hybrids, buses, and trucks), BYD Electronics (mobile electronic components and assembly services), and other units that manufacture battery systems, solar products, semiconductors, and rail transit solutions. BYD’s automotive business has become one of the largest producers of new energy vehicles worldwide, ending production of pure internal combustion engine cars in 2022 and achieving leading global sales of electrified vehicles.

BYD is known for its vertical integration across vehicle production, batteries, and electronics, and it has a presence in more than 100 markets worldwide. It is listed on both the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and its annual revenue has exceeded hundreds of billions of RMB.
