The Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) is a joint venture between Shanghai Lujiazui Exhibition Development Co. and the German Exhibition Group International, including companies from Hannover, Düsseldorf, and Munich. Established in 2001, SNIEC has become one of China’s most successful exhibition centers, hosting about 100 exhibitions annually that attract over 4 million visitors. The facility features 17 single-story, column-free exhibition halls offering 200,000 m² of indoor space and 100,000 m² of outdoor space. It also includes three entrance halls that provide areas for visitor registration, information, and other support functions; 20 designated unloading zones for direct truck access; 51 auxiliary conference rooms for meetings and forums; and parking for 4,730 vehicles. Each hall measures 70 m by 185 m (covering 11,547 m²) and is designed with flexible partitions, truck entrances, unloading facilities, equipment areas, offices, kiosks, restaurants, and storage. In its first phase, with an investment of US$99 million, the center comprises four halls and one entrance hall with 45,000 m² of indoor and 20,000 m² of outdoor exhibition space, a floor load capacity of 30 kN/m², clear heights ranging from 11 to 17 m, and eight doors per hall sized at 5.3 m by 4.1 m. Future development plans include adding a tower that will house a hotel, offices, and a conference center.
